CR Chapter 1

“The First Week”

I am very curious in writing about how obesity impacts students in America.  Obesity affects students at school and home, but I want to find out in what ways. Unfortunately, being obese leads to bullying and that is something I cannot tolerate.  I want to find solutions to this problem. I want to learn about what parents and schools are doing to encourage a healthy diet and physical activity. I think my classmates will benefit in learning about this because it is a serious problem that leads to other problems. It will also benefit classmates who are interested in becoming educators in the future. Obesity affects students at school and it is something teachers should keep in mind. The last research paper I did was on how the media affect teenage girls. I enjoyed researching about this because it is an ongoing problem. I remember I spent a lot of time working on my research topic but as Ballenger wrote in the Curious Researcher a topic needs to be researched thoroughly in order to really write a great paper.  

"The Second Week"

I enjoyed reading chapter two from the Curious Researcher. It gave me great ideas on how to approach the third project, which is a research paper.  I think the most appropriate research strategy for this project is to be very organized. This project involves a lot of research and organization is important to keep track of everything. It is also important to be patient when working on the project because looking for information is sometimes can be challenging as mentioned in the Curious Researcher.  I am not sure what I am going to be researching; however, I think I might write about obesity or child abuse/sexual molestation. I am not sure if these two topics are appropriate for the project, but I will ask Sheldon. I will be looking for sources at the library such as books, encyclopedias, and databases. I will also use search engines like Google and yahoo. When researching a topic through a search engine, it is important to use appropriate terms to find information related to one’s topic. Something that I need to keep in mind is to look at the publication of my sources because I want current sources. I definitely think it will take me some time gathering information for the project, but it will help me answer the main question of my research.  I am looking forward to starting this project.
